Would this media player/streamer work on my computer?
I am thinking of buying a 'NBox' HD Media Player to watch videos and listen to music on my tv. You can use sd cards and external hard drives but I was wondering if I can stream the music and videos directly from my laptop using the usb cable. Would this work and if it does do I need any special software?
If it doesn't work is there a cheap alternative to this preferably in the UK.
I can't use any cables between the two as I only have RCA and Scart inputs on my TV.

In order to do what you are asking you would need at least a network capable media player like this:

I have and use the ASUS unit and it works well from my W7 box if I use UPNP and really well from my FreeNAS box under SMB. The streamable internet links within the UI work well enough, including Flash , just not enough of them.
I have seen the Patriot device in use and it is quite slick.
I do realize you are asking about a media player that costs about a third of he two I linked to. If these are too much, consider getting an external drive or an extra large Flash drive to use with your choice.
