Are You Spending Your Valentine's Day With Nurse Akali?
Makers of the popular League of Legends Riot Games have made their own very unique in game Valentine's Day celebrations. Launching the "Sealed with a Crit" mini contest, fans of the game had to create their own League of Legends-themed card. Community coordinator Nikasaur requested that they be "big enough to be printable, cool enough to give to others, and funny enough that they totally creep out Rioterz [Riot staff] when they're received."
To explain to non-fans, League of Legends is one of a growing number of PC games based on the widespread Warcraft mod DotA (otherwise known as Defence of the Ancients). Riot, whose are primarily funded by micro transactions (which are in turn paid for by Riot Points, available from stores like Gamestop or directly from the client's store), began in 2006 in Culver City. In 2011 Tencent Holdings limited bought a majority stake in the company, although their maintain that Riot will continue to operate independently and with the same management team.
Riot also have fifty per cent off the Jack of Hearts Twisted Fate skin in celebration of the holiday, this accompanied by the cute Guerrilla Tristana and truly outrageous Emerald Taric. Twisted Fate himself has various Valentine's Day connotations. His Tango skin is partnered by Evelynn's one (although her reputation as a fickle paramour is pretty widespread).
Those of you who prefer download games will be glad to know that League of Legends can be acquired online and even free. The purchase of Riot Points are not necessary; most things aside from skins can be purchased with Influence Points, which are earned simply by playing the game. As such League of Legends is a great game to play with your significant other this Valentine's Day; you may even like it so much you buy some skins!
