How can you make a HDMI DVD Player work on a non-HDMI plasmaTV?
This new LG DVD/VHS combo player along with a recording function that Ive bought a day ago, came in a set of standard input cord,but with no HDMI cable. Everything works fine except for when it comes to recording programmes. It would not record anything at all when its set on a cable channel setting. So I went back to the store again today and asked about it. I was advised that in order for this to make it work, the TV must have either HDMI/DVI input and the best solution will be buying a new TV in this case.
The TV that I own is a Phillips plasma type and its got a 3 sets of standard(red/yellow/white)input and a S-Input but there is no Y/Pb/Pr input at all but the new DVD/VHS combo player also has a Y/PB/PR input, so it makes it harder.
Is what they told me even true?Will using a HDMI Converter helpful in this type of situation?

Question 1. Can you watch VHS tapes using the new player?
If yes, presumably using your yellow video cable, then you are doing OK. If not, that's step one. You don't need either HDMI or component inputs on your TV, although this would improve picture quality.
Q. 2. Does your combo has a Tuner? (An RF input for Coax is usually a good clue). Many Combos these days come tuner-less, then you need a set-top box to be able to record.
I suspect that's why you can't record.
Make sure you watch Cable programming through the VCR. If you can do that, then press record and it will record.
